Ryan James is the Clinical Supervisor for the UNBC Community Care Centre. A resident of Prince George for the past four years, Ryan was born in Vancouver and raised in Calgary. He returned to British Columbia to raise his three boys that keep him and his wife very busy.
Ryan greatly enjoys his work at the UNBC Community Care Centre. He especially appreciates that the university supported the vision to build a centre that can train students while supporting people in the community. He emphasizes how amazing it is to see an idea become a reality. He credits the university faculty and the Dean of the College of Arts, Social and Health Sciences (CASHS) for making that happen. Ryan enjoys supporting people through life’s challenges as well as learning with students as they work with people in the community that require a helping hand.
The Community Care Centre’s purpose is two- fold. It serves as both a training facility for counselling and social work students as well as providing a low-cost counselling service for community members that cannot afford or lack insurance to cover the costs of private-sector counselling. There are two locations. The main location is at the UNBC Bank of Montreal Building on 3rd Avenue and Quebec Street, with a second location on campus at UNBC. Both locations are training facilities for supervised and confidential counselling, with clients ranging from adolescents to older adults.
The Community Care Centre relies on community partnerships to sustain and maintain its functions and services. With the funding support of the university and from community collaborations, the Community Care Centre was awarded a grant from the Prince George Community Foundation. Ryan welcomes financial donations to assist the centre with its efforts to support our community. To arrange for a donation, community members can contact Ryan James for more information at 250-960-6450.
