"Making a difference in the lives of Canadians is an incredible feeling."

Tamara Sweet

Tamara Sweet is the Community Development Coordinator for Canadian Blood Services. Tamara was born in Terrace but has lived in Prince George for the past nine years after moving here in 1999 to attend the University of Northern British Columbia. UNBC is also where she met her husband Andrew Letts, from Prince Rupert.

She joined Canadian Blood Services because everyday she feels she is making a difference in the lives of Canadians. Each blood donation can help save or improve the lives of three people, meaning every time Tamara recruits a new donor into the clinic, she has a direct connection to saving someone's life.

Canadian Blood Services is a not-for-profit, charitable organization whose sole mission is to manage the blood and blood products supply for Canadians. Its goal is to gain the trust, commitment and confidence of all Canadians by providing a safe, secure, affordable and accessible supply of quality blood, blood products and their alternatives.

The organization’s office is located at 2277 Westwood Drive where they operate a blood donation clinic two or three days a week.

To encourage blood donations this holiday season, Canadian Blood Services will run a campaign from December 1 to January 2, 2008 featuring new "in honour" holiday cards that donors can pick up at the time of their donation. These cards allow donors to donate their blood in the name of a friend, colleague, loved one or business associate, while also improving or saving the lives of those who need this gift the most - hospital patients across the province.

These cards will be available at blood donor clinics across B.C. throughout the month of December and will include a "gift coupon" to encourage a loved one to book a donation to give as well. This way, your gift can go on to make a difference in the lives of countless British Columbians.

Anyone interested in donating blood can call 1-888-2DONATE (236-6283) to speak to a nurse or to book an appointment. Please visit www.blood.ca for more information.
