Alex Michalos is the Campaign Chair of the Prince George United Way and is now enjoying this role for the second consecutive year. He has made a home in Prince George for the past 15 years where he lives with his wife Deborah Poff.
Alex was drawn to work for the United Way by its mission to build communities and give people a chance to know, appreciate and help their neighbours as well as themselves. He had long been a member of local non-profit organizations but only after serving as campaign chair has he come to fully appreciate the organization’s work. Alex is happy and proud to have accepted the position.
The Prince George United Way’s mission is to improve lives and build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action. The organization meets this goal through supporting volunteer services within the community, providing educational opportunities to enhance community health and social services and running fund raising events with proceeds distributed to local social service agencies.
The United Way’s office is located at 1600 3rd Avenue, on the 5th floor of the Native Friendship Centre.
This fall, the United Way begins its 2008 “We Believe” campaign at the 27th Annual Campaign Kickoff Fashion Show on September 29th at the Coast Inn of the North. This fun event will highlight the impact of donations on the community and local gifts to the campaign as well as include door prizes from local businesses for the attendees.
The 2008 campaign season will run through to mid-December, with 250 workplaces, thousands of donors and hundreds of volunteers involved in the effort to make Prince George a better place for everyone.
