Monica Peacock is the Coordinator of the Evening of Pink, Memories & Celebrations event. Monica was born in Espanola, Ontario and has lived in many communities across the country including Vanderhoof and Terrace before settling in Prince George for the last 13 years. She has three grown children, including a daughter and her family who live in Lethbridge, Alberta and her two sons who live in Prince George, and three wonderful grandsons.
Monica joined the Evening of Pink after the loss of a young mother to breast cancer which sparked a desire to make a difference in the community for those who battle this disease. Her goal is to bring awareness to the young. Young men and women who are aware of changes to their bodies may make the difference with early diagnosis and treatment. Monica believes it should be awareness that motivates a medical check up and not fear.
The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation’s mission is to facilitate philanthropic investment in the enhancement of healthcare throughout the service area of the PGRH. It was founded in 1991 and has since received more than $15 million in community contributions towards capital equipment and improvements and support of education for healthcare workers and medical staff with the majority of those funds going directly into PGRH.
The organization’s offices are located at 1475 Edmonton Street, in the main foyer of the Prince George Regional Hospital. The foundation can be contacted locally at (250) 565-2515, toll free at 1-877-565-2515 or by email: spiritofthenorth@northernhealth.ca.
The Evening of Pink is a dinner event to raise funds and awareness in Prince George. The funds go to purchasing equipment for use in the Prince George Regional Hospital operating room in the direct treatment of breast cancer to the women and men of the North. The event will be held at the Civic Centre on September 20, 2008.
A highlight of the evening will be the opportunity to meet speaker, Libby Znaimer, the author of a new book called, “In Cancerland, Living Well is the Best Revenge.” She is an acclaimed Canadian journalist, broadcaster and radio executive who promotes cancer awareness.
The volunteer list is already full but you can get involved by buying a ticket and coming to enjoy this wonderful event. There are many opportunities to donate during the evening. All the funds raised go to The Spirit of the North HealthCare Foundation which in turn purchases the equipment.
