“Put your heart into it. Make a difference.”

Suzanne Anderson is the BC & Yukon Area Manager for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Born in Marathon, Ontario, Suzanne has lived in Prince George for 37 years. She is married with children and grandchildren.

She loves the challenge of hiring, training and motivating the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s team of staff and volunteers. The team raises money so the organization is able to continue valuable research and provide resources to the 26 communities in their catchment area. She appreciates that over 170 schools participate in school programs and more than 11,000 students get on their feet to create awareness and raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Suzanne became interested in the Foundation because both her husband and her own families have been greatly impacted by heart disease. Knowing that future generations will also be impacted, she decided to get involved.

Based out of Prince George, the Heart and Stroke Foundation provides a range of services including: Research funding, patient and family resource centres, health promotion and resource materials, Heartline and Strokeline Newsletters, children and youth programs such as Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart, summer student research programs and Aboriginal school programs.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Celebration Breakfast is on Friday, February 8 at the Coast Inn of the North. Tickets cost $25 and are available at 1480-7th Avenue or by calling (250) 562-8611.

February is Heart Month and over 1,000 canvassers will be going door-to-door raising money for the Foundation. More than 170 schools throughout the North have participated in Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart during the school year.

Donations can be made in the office located at 1480-7th Avenue or by calling 562-8611. Those looking for more information about how they can volunteer or get involved with the Heart and Stroke Foundation can contact Suzanne at the office or visit the website at www.heartandstroke.bc.ca.
