Karen Vohar is the A-Leader of the Pineview 4-H Club. Born and raised in Prince George, Karen and her husband Vince have four children: Sarah, Laurel, Spencer and Maximos. She got involved with the 4-H program because of its unique hands-on approach to teaching young people. She was introduced to 4-H four years ago when her husband suggested that it was the best way for their children to learn about agriculture.
Although the club does not have a formal office, the Pineview Recreation Commission allows them to use the hall for meetings. When the children come in for registration they are asked what their goals in life are and a program is developed from there. 4-H can teach them entrepreneurship, public speaking, agriculture, horticulture, animal care, cooking, sewing, crafts, woodworking, photography and many other things. 4-H prides itself on being a limitless program.
Two of the club’s senior members, Sarah Vohar and Elizabeth Ramsay, will be travelling to the Interior Provincial Exhibition in Armstrong to compete in the provincial demonstrations from August 31-September 2.
Family Frenzy is September 29 at UNBC, where the club will hold workshops for members and families. They have invited professionals from the area to speak on a variety of subjects including: animal care, how to run fun meetings, nutrition, public speaking, demonstrations and more.
The club will host their year end awards on October 26 and registration for 2008 programs will conclude towards the end of November. If you would like more information about the Pineview 4-H can contact Karen at (250) 963-7112.
