Dennis Nore is the Revenue Development Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) in Prince George. Dennis was born and raised in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, a small town of approximately 4,500 people located 250km northeast of Saskatoon. He moved to Prince George for the first time in 1973 from Regina. He has moved to and from the city a couple of times since but estimates that he has lived in PG for more than 20 years in total.
Dennis has been married to his wife Jo for almost 36 years and both their children live in Prince George with their families and five grandchildren. His favourite part of working for the CCS is the emphasis placed on caring for employees and ensuring a healthy balance between work and personal life.
The Canadian Cancer Society North Region office is located at Suite 300, 500 Victoria Street. The CCS offers support and information on all types of cancer. In the North they are able to assist individuals and families with some of the costs associated with travelling to another community for treatment.
There are a number of support groups operating in communities throughout northern British Columbia. The CSS also offers a toll free Cancer Information Service phone line available at 1-888-939-3333.
Dennis’ favourite activity is fundraising for the annual Cops for Cancer Tour de North event. The funds are used for pediatric cancer research, Camp Goodtimes and programs and services that support children and families of children fighting cancer. The event itself is a seven-day bike ride in September that begins in Prince George and ends in Prince Rupert. The Tour visits nearly a dozen communities along Highway 16 including a detour to Fort St. James.
This year’s Tour starts on September 7 and the four local riders are currently arranging sponsors for their personal profile advertising. The start of the Tour will include a pancake breakfast, some people having their heads shaved to pledge their support for the cause, sales of Tour de North t-shirts and hats, as well as the official send-off of the riders. The event will be held at the Re/Max Centre City on 15th Avenue. To sponsor a rider online, visit

The 2nd annual Mayor’s Lawn Bowling Tournament happens in August. You can enter a team in this fun event by contacting the Prince George Free Press. The Cops for Cancer Mixed Open Golf Tournament will take place on Labour Day Sunday at Alder Hill Golf Course.
