Lorraine Grant is currently the Executive Director of the Prince George Community Foundation. Born in Claresholm, Alberta; Lorraine was raised in different parts of British Columbia, mostly in Prince George, where she has lived since 1950. Lorraine is married to her husband, Garry, and has three daughters and a son, as well as seven “awesome” grandchildren from ages 9-18.
Lorraine enjoys her role with the Community Foundation because it is a growing organization that provides a benefit to other groups involved in health, sports, recreation, education, arts, culture, social services and the environment. She says the experience of working with those who generously give to the Foundation is very rewarding.
The PG Community Foundation office is located upstairs in the west building of the Studio 2880 Complex on 15th Avenue. Its mission statement is: “We can provide the opportunity to make a lasting charitable donation to enhance our community – forever.”
2006 marks ten years for the Foundation and they have met an ambitious goal of having two million dollars in endowed funds. They will continue to use the endowment to provide various community groups with grants.
This year the Grants Committee provided 30 organizations with funding of more than $107,000.
The Foundation is involved with a number of annual events including the Phantom Dinner in February, a golf tournament in September and the Citizen of the Year gala in October.
The group is currently encouraging individuals and businesses to be philanthropic leaders in Prince George and would like to thank everyone who has helped them grow, allowing the Foundation to provide perpetual benefits that will benefit the community’s youth, seniors and overall quality of life.
Lorraine encourages anyone interested to donate and notes that no gift is too small. Donators are encouraged to add to an already established fund or to build their own permanent family-named fund with a minimum commitment of $1,000 per year for five years.
