Mary Jarbek
is the Director of Community Relations for the Prince George Child Development Centre. She has lived in Prince George for the past 30 years, after moving from her hometown in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in 1976.
She lives with her spouse and has two children and four grandchildren. The favourite part of her role as Director is being able to work with the community and give something back to it. To the right, Mary is pictured with Shirley during the CDC's television auction.
The PG Child Development Centre is located at 1687 Strathcona Avenue and is operated by the Cerebral Palsy Association of Prince George and District. The organization has established an endowment fund with the Prince George Community Foundation and anyone wishing to donate (monetary or items for the children) can do so by contacting the PGCF. People interested in volunteering with the Child Development Centre are encouraged to contact their front office or visit
www.cdcpg.org for more information.
The CDC’s mission is to develop, coordinate and deliver community-based health and support services for children and their families in the Central Interior of British Columbia.
The organization provides a wide range of services including: communication therapy, paediatrician consultations, preschool, advocacy, counseling and family support, community referrals, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
The CDC is currently in phase four of their building expansion project, which includes: playground landscape, landscaping the front and sides of the building, expanding the parking lot, putting sound-proof tiles in the Early Childhood Education room and creating a sponsor/donor recognition wall.
The Centre will hold the 20th Annual Kris Kringle Luncheon this year. It is an event that helps the CDC thank donors and gives businesses an opportunity to treat their employees to a great lunch during the festive season. There will be door prizes as well as a balloon raffle with the grand prize of a gold ring courtesy of Ken’s Goldsmithing.
The CDC also has a gift wrap booth in Pine Centre Mall every year from the last week of November until December 24. It is a great opportunity for holiday shoppers to get their gifts wrapped for them while supporting a very worthy cause!
The CDC Family Service Department is providing parent workshops Wednesdays November 8th, 15th and 22nd as well from 9:30-11:00 am. For more information contact Lynnelle Sutherland at 563-7168 ext. 212.
