"We don't want your name, just your information that can help solve a crime!"

- Crime Stoppers

Roberta Stewart knows well that fighting crime isn’t just something to be left to police alone. As chair and president of the Prince George Crime Stoppers Association, Roberta is helping every member of the community to take on the role of a potential crime-buster.

A three-year resident of Prince George, she enjoys working with the great group of people that form the Board of the Crime Stoppers program and working with the people in the community, media and police that so strongly support the program.

Crime Stoppers serves as a way for people in the community to pass on information that may help solve a crime while staying anonymous, by way of a web site and toll-free number, 1-800-222-TIPS.

That information is collected and forwarded to the RCMP. Individuals never have to give their name or any other personal information and if the information leads to an arrest, the tipster is eligible for a cash reward of up to $2000.

Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization that relies on fundraising to carry out day-to-day operations as well as to pay out rewards.

Crime Stoppers is working with School District 57 on bringing the Student Crime Stoppers program to Prince George schools this year.

In November, Crime Stoppers is hosting their annual ‘Thank You’ event for sponsors and partners. As well, January is Crime Stoppers month, and more events will be planned then to raise the profile of Crime Stoppers in the community.

Crime Stoppers is always in search of volunteers and sponsors. For more information, visit their Web site  www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca or call Debbie Stangrecki at the Crime Stoppers office at 250-561-3390.
