When the mercury starts creeping up and up during the summer months, people start looking for a cold treat that tickles the taste buds and helps to beat the summer heat.
For youthful McBride entrepreneur Max Barton, that craving for cool sweets has turned into a brand new business, serving up ice cream for the sun-stricken residents of the Robson Valley.
The 15-year-old Barton is the owner, founder and proprietor of Max’s Soda Jerk Ice-Cream, a new business venture in McBride formed with the intent of bringing something new to the community and giving residents a place to meet old friends and make news ones as well.
Max’s Soda Jerk Ice-Cream is one of McBride’s newest business ventures – an old-fashioned ice cream parlour serving up tasty desserts for local residents and visitors alike.

Located at 1032 Second Avenue in McBride, the shop serves up everything from ice cream cones to milkshakes, evoking a 1950s-era nostalgia for the days when ice-cream parlours were commonplace and sharing a milkshake with someone special was considered a great first date.
The main goal of Max’s Soda Jerk Ice-Cream is, of course, to serve up some of the best ice cream this side of Mount Robson. But the friendly shop is also a place to socialize, chat with acquaintances and help build a stronger sense of community in McBride and the Robson Valley.
Everyone is welcome to come in, test out one of Max’s tasty concoctions and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. You may just find a friend you didn’t know you had!
