"Relevant research for the north by people from the north!"
- Margo Greenwood
|
As regional director of the Centre of Excellence for Children and Adolescents with Special Needs, Margo Greenwood has a chance to make a real difference in the lives of children and adolescents with special needs living in Canada.
A mother of three children, Margo has lived in Prince George for eight years.
The Center for Excellence for Children and Adolescents with Special Needs has three objectives: Improving accessibility to useful information and services; improving access to appropriate service delivery; and augmenting community capacity to influence policies that affect children with special needs.
They are a research-based institute, examining issues that affect special needs children and youth, especially issues relating to substance abuse.
Though they are based at the University of Northern British Columbia, the Centre also operates a downtown drop-in location. The Centre is located at 1310 Third Avenue, Prince George.
The Centre is constantly monitoring events, publication information and activities that pertain to children, youth, special needs and substance abuse. They circulate regular e-mail “e-bulletins” of their most recent research, publications, conferences and training/skills development opportunities of interest to people living in the north.
The Centre is also always looking for volunteers, including practicum students or researchers. They’re looking for input from the community on what would make our city a better place for youth with special needs; stories about solutions to working with substance abuse and special needs; and possible research topics relating to substance abuse and special needs.
To offer comments, call (250) 960-5806. To be added to the e-bulletin list, e-mail
