"P.A.R.T.Y.'s mission is to promote injury prevention through reality education... enabling youth to make informed choices about activities and behaviours."
- Lorraine Beach
Lorraine Beach likes a good party. Unlike most people, however, when Beach talks about a party she doesn’t mean dancing and music, she means P.A.R.T.Y. – Preventing Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth.
Lorraine first heard about the P.A.R.T.Y. program after moving to Prince George three years ago. She began volunteering every Thursday for the Prince George branch of the Canada-wide program and later became the local program co-ordinator.
She is a passionate advocate of the program because of its ability to educate youth about the dangers of alcohol and risky behaviour. Knowing that her work saves lives and keeps youth out of harms’ way makes going to work each day a joy for Lorraine.
The P.A.R.T.Y. program is based out of Prince George Regional Hospital. It’s there that youth are exposed to the reality they face when they put themselves at risk. This is achieved by utilizing community-based leadership and expertise, graphic slides of real-life situations and hands-on simulations.
Experienced professionals in health care and law enforcement share their real-life experiences dealing with the aftermath of injuries and deaths. Also, individuals that have experienced these terrible incidents share their stories.
The P.A.R.T.Y. program takes place every Thursday and is offered to high school students 16 years and older. There is also an age-appropriate version for students from elementary schools, grades 4-6.
The Prince George branch of P.A.R.T.Y. is a non-profit organization and always happy to accept donations and new volunteers. Anyone interested in donating or volunteering can call (250) 565-2869 or e-mail Lorraine at
lorraine.beach@northernhealth.ca. The Prince George P.A.R.T.Y. Web site is

As a non-profit society, P.A.R.T.Y. relies on donations and also on grants. Raising funds can be difficult and the local branch is on the lookout for people who have experience in fundraising to offer advice.
